Rebranding and keeping google rank
-
Hi
We use wordpress.com for our business website and are just about to change the name of our business.I want to change the domain name (URL) of our website but, of course, I want to try to keep our google ranking as much as possible.
It seems like I have two options (while staying within wordpress.com):
1. Change the domain name on our website via “custom domains” in the wordpress.com store.
2. Export everything into another website with the new name, making sure all the URL formats are the same and then paying for a 301 redirect in the wordpress.com store. (I’ve already set this up and it’s ready to go with a temporary domain name)Do both of these options amount to the same thing? Or which would be better.
I am more concerned with keeping google rank than I am in keeping my followers (as most of our business comes through search engines) but I suppose keeping the followers would be no harm either!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, just giving this a quick bump (I think I posted a bit early for folks in the US to be awake!)
