Rebuild an existing website from scratch with WordPress

Hello, I took over webmaster responsibilities for a club whose website is built on outdated iweb (Apple) and hosted on register.com. I plan to build a new website with WordPress, then switch over. I’m assuming I’d keep register.com as the host, and switch over. I’m assuming I should purchase the premium account on WordPress.com. Not sure about WordPress.org. I’d like to get some pointers.
    1) keep register.com as host?
    2) WordPress.com or WordPress.org

    Thanks!

    Hi there!

Yes, you would keep the domain at the registrar, and then map it to your new site by changing the name servers. Directions for that are here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

WordPress.com vs WordPress.org depends on the features you require. I’d lean toward saying .com can work for your club, but there are a few instances in which it may not. If you want to list out your main requirements, I can let give you a yes/no for .com to help you decide. :)

And if you’re not sure on the main differences between the two options, this page has a helpful chart for an overview: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
