receiving fake follower email notifications with fake outlook email address

I keep receiving emails that read as follows…
(email visible only to moderators and staff) just started following you at http://thisgirlcalledmindy.wordpress.com. They will receive an email every time you publish a post. Congratulations.
Each email notification I get contains a fake email address and is not an actual follower of my blog. I would like to know why this is happening and how to stop it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This thread was sent to me. It appears lots of people are experiencing this issue. It would be nice for a better solution than manually deleting these “followers” and turning off the email notification.

Hi there,
That is an old thread.
There is no need to manually delete these followers – we are automatically deleting them as we detect them. We are also working on blocking them completely, but doing that takes time as we don’t want to block legitimate followers who just happen to have @outlook.com emails (which includes anyone who ever signed up for a Hotmail account) in the process.
For now disabling new follow notifications is a suggestion so you don’t constantly have to receive emails about these fake followers in your inbox, but it’s a temporary measure as we are working on stopping this completely.
