Receiving posts from self hosted wordpress sites into wordpress.com reader
-
The recently rolled out feature of action bar is cool, however just wanted to ask whether there are any plans to provide this facility to self hosted WordPress sites to offer subscription through follow button? If yes, what kind of subscription readers should expect from the self hosted follow button as there can be readers
1. who are wordpress.com account holders – can receive notifications on their wordpress.com reader as well as via email and
2. who are non wordpress.com readers – can expect email subscription only
On separate note, it would be great if wordpress.com could accommodate self hosted WordPress sites into its network so that every WordPress user gets same blogging experience even after being self hosted.

Hi @pratikakkawar, WordPress.org site owners can implement follow buttons and subscription options using Jetpack and other plugins.
Also, WordPress.com users can add sites at wordpress.com/following/edit

That’s actually why we offer Jetpack. We’re trying to give site owners similar services in their own installations. Check it out at jetpack.me .

Yes, I know that jetpack provides facility to subscribe but I guess it offers only email subscription to viewers. What I am expecting is the same behavior like wordpress.com users. Once they follow any blog they get to see new posts into their Reader as well as receive new posts via email. I guess jetpack doesn’t facilitate prior one, am I right here? or is there any way that if any wordpress.com user follows/subscribes my jetpack enabled wordpress.org site, receives my new posts into their wordpress.com Reader?

You can add a follow button if you’d like, actually. Here’s how:

Thanks for the link. However, I have done the same but following via this button resulted in getting new posts into my mailbox and not in wordpress.com Reader. :( Can you please elaborate more on this as I am confused why it’s not allowing new posts to appear in follower’s reader as well.

Sure! Here it is
Also, currently I’m the only follower of site. I have placed the follow button at footer. I am following the site with this current wordpress.com account.

Same is the issue with my other site. You can have a look at it as well. :)

You mean, you got my posts into your reader? If its working for you, then what is wrong with my reader? Can you please let me know what am I missing? Any particular settings for that?
-
Hello Velda,
I have published a new post on site you followed so that you can test whether you are receiving it in your reader. The post I published is ‘testing123’. Please let me know if you are able to see it appearing in your reader.
-
Yes, I see it in my reader, though I did have to scroll a bit to get there. Do you see the site under https://wordpress.com/following/edit ?
-
In case of http://pratikakkawar.com the newly published post appeared (took some time though) in my reader so that’s working fine. Also, I can see both the sites under https://wordpress.com/following/edit but in case of http://livelifebetter.in still no success in receiving posts into reader. I wonder why is that so as I’m following same process for both sites?
-
You have a redirect loop on your feed URL:
http://livelifebetter.in/feed/Can you work with your host to fix that?
-
Sure, will get in touch with my host to solve this and test again. Thank you so much for your help so far. I hope you will be there if I need anything else regarding the same issue. :)
-
Glad we could help :) Generally, you’ll find the best Jetpack help here: jetpack.me/support
And WordPress.org support here: wordpress.org/support
But I’m happy to help how I can with WordPress.com and point you in the right direction otherwise :) Cheers!
