Recent Change to Themes

    Howdy!

    Following the recent change to Themes, is it possible to:

    • Preview themes with existing content?
    • Purchase a WordPress.com theme (not Partner themes) independent of upgrade plan? (As was previously possible.)

    I’m sure there will be other questions, but those are the first that spring to mind.

    Hi there Jen, I’ll do my best here:

    This is something that I believe is being discussed by our theme team as a later phase since the ability to preview block themes is something they have only recently wrapped up on. Speaking personally, I can see a lot of technical hurdles in adapting current homepage content to the preview homepage template, since homepages are different from theme to theme, and existing sites may not have their content set up in a way that lends itself to being shown in the homepage template.

    Do you mean something else, like the ability to see how the previewed theme interacts with other pages of your site besides the homepage template?

    I’m less sure on this but I don’t think it’s something that is being worked on currently. My guess is that the managing the billing and pricing of individual themes was complicating things, which lead to the creation of an Add-On for access to all premium themes without the need to commit to a full WordPress.com plan: https://wordpress.com/add-ons/
