Recent Comments no show up on Blog page

The recent comments section on my page shows there are no comments, but in reality there are comments that should show up there. This problem just started today.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are no public comments available to display.
I have never seen this before! It should show the last 10 most recent comments.

I have the same problem: the blog contains comments and I get the same, this did not happen before. In my case the blog is not public and readers must be logged in to read or write, but until today their comments on the post were also displayed in the comments section.

a temporary solution that works: go to widgets>recent comments>avatar size >choose no avatars

Using Andreas 9 and not only are the recent comments not displayed in the widgit, but several friends emailed me saying they were not able to comment on my posts.
