Recent post widget with blog excerpt?

  I would like the recent posts widget to show the first paragraph or two of each blog post, not just the title and date posted. Is there a way to do this, or another widget I should be using?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  There is no way to make Recent Posts widget to display post excerpts.

  However you can try with RSS widget as following:

  Enter the RSS feed URL here = http://hartwellstudios.com/blog/feed

  Give the feed a title (optional) = Recent Posts

  Select all three checkboxes.

  The result is what you see in the Recent Posts widget on the left sidebar of my test blog. You just have one post in your blog. So I added my Recent Posts to give you an idea on how the widget looks like in case you have multiple posts.

  The display posts shortcode can be set to include excerpts, you can also order it to show posts odered by date by default. Try using it in a text widget and see how it looks!

  Thanks @halluluke. I never knew we could use display posts shortcode.

  I used the following short code in the Text widget and it works flawlessly.

  [display-posts include_date="true" include_excerpt="true"]
