Recently Purchased Domain Name
-
Hello, I recently bought a domain name on GoDaddy and now want to create a blog here. How on earth do I go about doing that. I’m seeing it takes 60 days! Can I not create site for 60 days?
Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
Correct account: Yes -
You could have registered your domain right here at WordPress.com if here is where you wish to build your site. While it is true you can’t transfer a domain here (or anywhere else for that matter) until you have owned it for at least 60 days you can connect it to a site here at WordPress.com immediately.
With a paid plan here is the instructions to map/connect a domain that resides at another company:

Bless you so much for that. I don’t know why I felt it was good to have domain name from other source. 😑At least it is good to know I can connect here right away. Does that mean I can start a blog right away or do I have to wait for 60 days to pass?

Also, is it right that it costs £84 to connect? Just tried and there doesn’t seem to be a cheaper alternative? -
The £36 Personal plan is cheaper than the Premium plan. You can even pay monthly if you wish to spread the cost but that does turn out to be more expensive in the long run.
(I hate to mention it but you could have had your domain free for the first year if you’d registered it here at WordPress.com at the same time as buying a plan).
And mapping/connecting should have you blogging straight away not in 60 days. -
Right, I’m soooo sorry for all of the questions but I’ve now dispensed with the GoDaddy domain name (not the end of the world) and bought the yearly premium plan with WordPress and got my free domain name.
The thing is, it has attached itself to a blog I already had that was required for an Open University course I was doing. I’d wanted a complete fresh site! Arrrgggh! Oh why is tech soooo damn tedious?
Is it a lost cause? I’m wondering whether to get a refund and ditch the whole idea.

To underscore what @themagicrobot has correctly pointed out, you can user your custom URL as the address for your WordPress.com site right away, no waiting.
To do that you will keep the domain where it is for now (since you are not able to transfer) and instead connect it to us via domain settings. That lets you use it now, and then when 60 days are up, you can finalize that by transferring the domain over to your account here, so everything is in one place when it is time to renew.
You can connect your GoDaddy domain to your WordPress.com site by first upgrading to any of the plans listed here, they all include the custom domain connection option: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Once you have upgraded let us know and we can walk you through the domain connection process, thanks!

Hi there!
No worries! We’re here to help! Please note that your WordPress.com Premium plan gives you access to live chat support during the weekdays and email support during the weekends. So you don’t have to keep posting on this forum. Please go to https://wordpress.com/help/contact to start chatting with us instantly!
I see that the new domain registration and the WordPress.com Premium plan are on the site https://myocajoyandflapdoodle.wordpress.com. If you wanted a completely new site for the premium plan and the domain instructionsforfreedom.com, here’s what you can do:
1. Go to https://wordpress.com/pricing → choose the free plan to get started.
2. When it asks to choose a name, enter something likeinstructionsforfreedomdotcom.wordpress.com– don’t forget the .wordpress.com part at the end. This lets you continue creating the site without paying.
3. Once the new site has been created, the next step is for us to move the domain and the Premium plan to the new site. Please go to https://wordpress.com/help/contact to start a live chat where you can request us to do this for you instantly. Or you can come back here and let us know and we can move the domain and the Premium plan to the new site.Hope that helps!
