Reclaiming domain name registration
-
I’m working with a client who registered their domain name through WordPress.
The person who registered the domain name has left the company, and had all of the registration information assigned to her personal phone # and email address.
What is the process to reclaim ownership and management of this domain?
-
The person needs to transfer the upgrades to an account you like – it is not a process of “reclaim” – all upgrades are owned by the original account that purchased them

Not an option. She has left the company terms that make her cooperation non-existent.
I, in fact, need to reclaim ownership of the domain, which was registered through WordPress, so I can get it transferred to name servers and a registrar my company can maintain and control.
ICANN has policies and procedures for any organization that is acting as a Registrar to follow in these exact circumstances.

You should also have local legal action available to get a court order for the transfer if that was intellectual or other property of the company and hopefully covered by an employment agreement

While we cannot advise you in legal matters, in this case you may wish to contact ICANN directly.
You may also submit a DMCA notice to our Terms of Service Department.

The organization in question is a law enforcement agency. If they had any desire to take it to court, they would have. They would far prefer to just deal with it and be done.
You are the registrar of record. If you are registering domain names, you have certain responsibilities.
Specifically, refer to ICANN Section 3.7.8
3.7.8 Registrar shall abide by any specifications or policies established according to Section 4 requiring reasonable and commercially practicable (a) verification, at the time of registration, of contact information associated with a Registered Name sponsored by Registrar or (b) periodic re-verification of such information. Registrar shall, upon notification by any person of an inaccuracy in the contact information associated with a Registered Name sponsored by Registrar, take reasonable steps to investigate that claimed inaccuracy. In the event Registrar learns of inaccurate contact information associated with a Registered Name it sponsors, it shall take reasonable steps to correct that inaccuracy.
Technically, WildWildWest domains is the Registrar of Record, but I have already spoken to them, and they informed me that WordPress was the partner Registrar, and that you would have to be the ones to assist, as it was through a competitive partnership.
Email me with the information to speak to an actual support person.

For the record, I’ve been doing this work for a LONG time, and this isn’t my first time having to do a Domain reclamation.
It’s not my fault if you don’t understand your responsibilities, but it is my expectation that you will address this properly.

You can give me a non-public method of communicating with support, and I would be happy to.
I’m not posting my client’s information to a public forum.
