    Hello! 👋🏼

My organization’s website recently expired and we are locked out of the admin account that created the site. We are not sure how to proceed so we can reclaim our original domain and update payment information.

    That’s unfortunate!

I checked the domain, and it expired 22 days ago. However, given that it’s now in the redemption period, it can still be restored with an additional fee of $80.

To learn more about what happens with the domain when it expires, please refer to this guide:

This guide explains what happens when a domain expires. Most of the same information also applies when a domain is actively canceled. When Does a Domain Expire? When you register your domain (e.g. yourgroovydomain.com) with WordPress.com, you purchase the right to use that domain for as long as you keep the registration active. Domain registration terms are annual so your domain will

⭐️ Regarding restoring access to the site owner’s account, please email us at passwordhelp@wordpress.com and we’ll be happy to assist further.

Thank you for sharing that resource. Unfortunately, we are locked out of the admin account that had historically made the purchase to renew the website so the Renew Domain option is not available on any of the accounts we use to update the website. Does this mean we need to wait for it to become publically available again and purchase it back then?

    Hi there!

Are you locked out of the correct account because it belonged to someone else, or did you forget the password? We don’t recommend waiting for the domain to be available again because there’s a good chance you’ll lose the domain forever (that’s because someone else can always register the domain before you).

If the correct account belongs to you and you are having trouble logging in because you forgot the email address or password, we encourage you to email us at passwordhelp@wordpress.com or use the account recovery form here.

You can send us the transaction ID (here’s how to get it), and our team can help you log in.

    Hope that helps!
