Recommended Blogs – Nature category virtually eliminated???

    WordPress People:

    Why the changes to the Recommended Blogs page? Specifically, what brilliance dictated the Nature category (previously about 36 blogs strong) be shoved into the “b-side” of a new “Science and Nature” category that may as well just be called “Science”, as the (only) 12 blogs shown are purely about the “science of nature” and not at all about the “love and appreciation of all things nature” as were the 30 some-odd blogs contained in the former “Nature” category? I can’t imagine why the former Nature category and the blogs listed within suddenly became irrelevant?

    Hi @longhairedcountryboy — thanks for the note and truly appreciate that you’ve noticed some changes made last year in the Recommendations categories.

    Generally, we sift through all the blogs periodically in the showcase to make sure they a) still meet the editorial criteria and b) have posted in the past 4-5 months. So, we removed many sites from all categories, and did some reorganizing for a number of categories (completely deleting some altogether). Originally, science was paired with technology, which wasn’t fitting; we combined technology with business, which is better suited for now. As you noted, we combined science with nature. You’re right — it’s currently imbalanced, and it’s on our list to add more sites, not just to this category but to a handful of others. The showcase is always changing and being refreshed, so thanks for your feedback. You’re free to forward links to site recommendations, too.

    We’re also paring down this section in general as the Reader evolves, and as we build a brand-new destination site called Discover, on which we’ll expand our featured categories (science, nature) and tags (animals, etc.) On this new site, you’ll be able to better explore and search subjects and find sites and posts that are of interest to you.
