Recommending links.

I cannot seem to find the answer to what I consider a straightforward question…

Occasionally, I come across an enjoyable article, that is written on a venue other than WordPress, by an author who is not me.
Can I recommend a link to that article on my blog, if I get permission from the author and I give credit to the author in my description?
Someone in the forum, said that I could post a link without getting permission or giving credit to the author, which is fine with me, but when I asked for the proper way in which to do it, I did not get any response.
I eventually went to my blog, clicked “new post”, then clicked “link”, inserted the link into the “URL” field, gave credit to the author in the “Description” field, and posted it.
If this way of recommending a link, goes against WordPress rules and regulations, please respond with the correct method, if one exists.
If I get no response, then I will assume that I did it right.
    Thank you.

You don’t need permission to link to someone, you just do it. You can see examples of a blog that does this at http://Boingboing.net among others.

You are not doing them any favours just putting a link in, without any post around it. You have to SAY something about the link and why you’re recommending it.

Thank you for your timely response.
It corroborates with the other member’s response.

I post a brief description of what the author’s article is about, so it’s not just a link with nothing around it.

Surprisingly, it seems as if I’m doing everything correctly, so I’ll just continue to do it this way.

I’m very happy with this venue, relative to other venues that lock you into a certain format of expression.

    Thanks again.
