Reconnecting site with new hosting (issue)

Hello, I apologize in advance for not knowing as much about WordPress and web hosting as I’d like.
Last semester I set up a WordPress website at http://www.dallintphotography.com and webhosting with WH4S. Unfortunately the hosting was terminated and I just purchased a new one through WH4S again. I still own the domain http://www.dallintphotography.com, but it gives me an error blank screen when I visit the website. I also get a red exclamation point in the WordPress dashboard telling me there is an issue. When I click on the exclamation point, it just takes me back to my website with the error blank page.
I genuinely do not know if I need to do something on the WordPress end or the hosting end, so I am asking for help on both sides.
Any information on this would be amazing! I am falling behind in my assignments because my website is not up.

    Thank you,
    Dallin

    Hi there!

To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

Since your site is not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise. But I can get you pointed in the right direction to get help.

You see your site information in your WordPress.com dashboard because you connected your site using the Jetpack plugin. This connection allows you to manage your site from the WordPress.com dashboard, but this does not replace your hosting account where your website is installed. This connection only shows the content from that site on WordPress.com – it does not make a copy or backup of that site. If anything would happen to the original site, whether it be content removal or expired hosting, the content would not exist on your dashboard here.

You should reach out to your host WH4S for help with this issue. Since they used to host your site, hopefully, they still have a backup from before your hosting expired they can use to restore your site. If they don’t, I’m afraid your content may be lost – but WH4S should be better able to advise on that.

Going forward, you should have a backup solution for your site so you can undo things if they should ever go wrong – like losing your content like you experienced, a bad plugin/theme update that takes down your site, or if your site is attacked by hackers. Since you were using the Jetpack plugin, you can add their Backup service to your account and you can be protected from situations like these in the future.

    I hope that helps!
