Recover Administrator access to a site transferred to a user with Editor cred's?
-
I built a site for an aging couple connected it to their domain and then transferred the site and the domain to them. I presumed the new owner of the site would automatically be elevated to “administrator” access.
They want some stuff changed, so I asked them to add me in as an Administrator user, but from the dashboard — there is no “user” link — which tells me one of two things. Either they are accessing the account with a different userid (with editor credentials perhaps) or that transferring the site to that userid didn’t result in an automatic elevation of the user (new owner) role of Administrator.
So a couple of things:
1.) how to elevate a user to Admin, when the Admin account perhaps isn’t defined?or
2.) recover the transfer history that might indicate the transfer went to a user account they have forgotten they have and are not using.
Thanks for your suggestions.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Lets see if the staff can sort it out for you.
I have flagged this for staff attention
I am also wondering about having an Editor as Owner as I have friends that don’t want to be Admin of their blog, so I still own it as Admin

Thanks, I appreciate your perspective — I support a range of others that have no business fiddling with Admin controls. And yet they need to “own” their Site …
It seems there are natural, unavoidable responsibilities that come with ownership. Which infers that some of us will consistently be called upon in the role of “FORD” (Fix or Repair Daily.)

You’ll find evidence of my creating the site in the site source, of course… In case you’re wanting to corroborate my role in this issue.
thanks for the response, by the way.

And that I managed to transfer a blog that I addressed with my userid? Complete idiot (unwitting) mistake. Simply wasn’t paying attention.

So, as you suspected, there are two user accounts for that site. One is an administrator and the other an editor. Like you said, I suspect they are logging in with the editor account and not the admin.
Can you ask them if they could have created a second WordPress.com account at any point?
If they cannot remember the login information for a WordPress.com account, their best bet is to try the account recovery process here:

Due to the private nature of information required for account recovery and the public nature of these forums, we cannot help with account recovery here.

Yup. Thanks. I was fairly confident of the “forgotten” login, but needed to ask.
Appreciate your assistance.

Yup. All fixed up.
Afraid this was all too much trouble … as balanced with the issues I “fixed” for him. But c’la vie.
WordPress.com rocks. Pleased to suggest your wares and use ’em myself.
