Recover and transfer custom domain

Hello, I mistakenly started a website yesterday on WordPress.com with a custom url when I really wanted to self host it. I deleted the site on this account, but I can’t figure out how to recover the domain name. I know I can’t reuse the .wordpress.com name, but I thought I could use the custom one.

Hi there,
Cancelled domain can take anything from a few days to over a year to become available again. If you still wanted to use the domain it would have been better not to cancel it at all.
In this case your domain should be released in a few days, after which it will be available again for anyone to register.
I can also still restore it to your account, but you won’t be able to transfer it anywhere until you’ve owned it for at least 60 days. You can still use it with a different hosting provider during those 60 days by mapping it to the other provider instead.
Should I restore the domain, or will you wait for it to become available again?
