recover domain

I own a domain name which was hosted on wordpress until recently, but I closed it because I don’t use it, however, I want to use it as an email address, how do I go about that?

    Hey rustedandrotten,

You can’t use a custom email address unless the domain name is active on a server.
You need to make it live and then connect to any of the email hosting providers.

Please mention the domain name so that we can check its current status.

    Hi
    The domain is tonylockhart.com

I closed the blog and cancelled the subscription a few days ago. But I still have almost a year before it is due to be renewed. So to use the email, do I need to reactivate the site and only use the blog as a placeholder so to speak?

Right now, the domain is parked. When you canceled the WordPress.com plan, and if you registered the domain too, it means it’s also gone.

And of course, to use an email client for a custom domain, you require a WordPress.com paid plan.

I am tagging this thread to the staff so that you can get the proper status of the domain. Please wait for a while.

Thanks for your reply. I understand about needing a paid plan, thats no problem. I thought the domain would have been still registered to me as i paid for a year and was hoping to retain it.

  • Hi there,

That domain has expired and it’s now on hold. Please contact us from the account that owns that domain (it’s not rustedandrotten), so we can help you recover it.

I cannot use the other account because it is closed. And when i click the ‘contact us’ link it goes to a general help page. That is why i am using this account.

  • In that case, please reply to the account closure email we sent to the email address for that account for help with this.

We can only make changes to a domain if requested by the verified owner of the domain, and in this case we’ll need to re-open that account before the domain can be restored.

I can’t do that either because the emails have all been deleted.
Surely, as I paid for the domain it must still be registered to me, the year I paid for hasn’t expired, so I should be able to transfer it to any host, is that not correct?

It’s kept with Wild West Domains isn’t it?

  • Yes, you can make changes to the domain – but you’ve got to be signed in correctly before we can do that.

Even if the email on the account has been deleted you can still recover the account through the payment information. Look here:

    Recover Your Account

You need to get in to the unsettlinglife account.

The domain, tonylockhart.com, expired 43 days ago. It is registered through us, but pointed to GoDaddy.

It did not expire. I was sent a reminder email on August 2nd saying that it would be auro-renewed in 30 days, and sure enough 30 days later the funds were taken from my account.

This is from my bank statement dated September 3rd 2018: [redacted] WORDPRESS 8772733049 £20.08

I was using my own website tonylockhart.com on WordPress just a few days ago when I decided not to keep using the blog, not being aware that when cancelling the blog, the domain name would disappear. So now I cannot log into it to ask you to recover the domain. It shouldn’t need recovering, it never expired.

  • @rustedandrotten I reached out via email with the old account. Please watch for that email and reply to it with your confirmation.
