Recover URL as the owner of that URL in the past

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I was the owner of icedoux.wordpress.com and wanted to clear out all of my contents in the blog and thought I can reuse my url. But it seems that even the owner is not able to recover this.
Am I understanding correctly? Is there any solution to my problem?
    Awaiting your generous feedback.
    Sincerely,
    Icedoux

Yes, you are reading it correctly:
You cannot re-use or recycle or reincarnate a blog url once it has been deleted. Not even if you were the owner if tge site.

The solution is to buy an upgrade to map your domain to a name you prefer.

Here is one previous discussion about your issue:

You can also check out the tags on the right-hand side of these forums which is confirm that you cannot re-use your former url.

    Thank you.
I have fully understood what policy is in force as to URL.
I’ll try buying an upgrade and will map address that suits my appetite.

Anyway, if I buy a domain through wordpress and deleted the blog, that is something like .com or .org, those domains will also be not recoverable? And wordpress will take ownership of that URL?

And it’s my suggestion that it would be better to clearly notify users ,prior to deletion of URL, of the policy in force that wordpress doesn’t allow user even the owner to recover or reclaim without any exception.

Though there are several stages to proceed to permanently deletion of URL, I absolutely didn’t know this policy at all.(It’s my fault not to check this but if you nudge this information kindly to user before they proceed to delete, that would be definitely great.)

Nobody takes ownership of the underlying Whatever.wordpress.com URL once it’s deleted. That is why there are three warnings and an email confirmation, plus thousands of threads in the forum, all telling you that deletion is permanent and irreversible. The information was there, you just skimmed it.

    Thank you for your advice.
But primarily, it is my opinion that the words ‘deletion is permanent and irreversible’ don’t mean the URL will be occupied permanently and no one will have any access to this URL.
I just wanted to express that if this fact is easily notified to people like me(sorry for the skimming), there would be less inquries with respect to this matter.
Anyway, many thanks indeed for your clarification.
