Recover website credentials
-
I am volunteering on behalf of Fundacion Mujer in San Jose, Costa Rica as part of my master’s program. The page is currently not functional. The org staff contracted an individual to set up the site – they are not able to get ahold of this individual or recoup the login credentials. How can we find a way forward?
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Update.. I’ve received the credentials with this link (https://fundacionmujer.org/wp-admin) but when I paste this into Google I get a screen that says:
Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

When I enter the email and password into the standard WordPress login site, WordPress says: User does not exist. Would you like to create a new account?

Hi there!
There are two things at play here.
- Your site wasn’t actually hosted by us at WordPress.com. So the credentials you try on WordPress.com do not work as expected. There are two versions of WordPress — WordPress.com and WordPress.org. We are WordPress.com, a managed hosting platform where we take care of the technical side of things so you can focus on creating content and customizing your site.
There’s also WordPress.org, the open-source software that can be installed on other hosts. Your site was running WordPress.org, and it was hosted by a different hosting company.
There are some differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. If you aren’t sure about them, please check the following page that explains it: WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org. - The second issue is that your domain doesn’t load the site right now, likely because it has expired. If you look at the domain’s WHOIS lookup here, you’ll see its status says “autoRenewPeriod.” This might mean your domain needs to be renewed by your domain registrar.
You’ll see that
pair Networks, Inc. d/b/a pair Domainsis listed as the domain registrar, but you may have purchased the domain from one of their resellers. You will need to find the domain registrar (whom you paid to register this domain) and renew it as soon as possible. Without renewing the domain first, your site will not be accessible.Hope that helps!
