Recovering a deleted account’s username

  • Unknown's avatar

My deleted account ‘mets11rap’ has the username I want to use for this account, but is considered taken. How can I fix this?

  • The only way would be to request that the same account be reopened, and you’ll need to do that within 30 days of account closure. Usernames are not ever recycled on WordPress.com and cannot be moved between accounts. You would need to move the blogs and email TO that username instead.

If the account deletion was less than 30 days ago, can you please reply to the email you got at that time and request for it to be reopened?

It was closed a long time ago. I no longer have the closure email.

  • If it was closed longer than 30 days ago, the username is permanently deleted and cannot be used again. https://en.support.wordpress.com/close-account/

Usernames cannot be re-used after closure
While all data associated with an account is removed during a closure, the username is blocked from being registered again, in order to prevent impersonation.

I’m sorry, you’ll need to select another username. The username mets11rap is permanently deleted and cannot be used again.

  • Hi there,

I can confirm it’s not possible to re-use the username, mets11rap. That account was not closed, but the username was deleted during a username change. Usernames that are deleted in that way cannot be restored at all.
