Recovering a lost password on an inactive email account
-
Hi, I need help recovering a longstanding WordPress account and blog that I haven’t posted to for years. Unfortunately the email I used to register that site isn’t valid anymore, I no longer work at that organisation. In this situation, how do I recover control of my WordPress site?

Hi,
I am in the same situation here. I created the account using an older email address that it’s no longer valid. Unfortunately I cannot provide the activation link or any other proof.
Is there any way to recover the password and account? The blog’s logo is the same picture I use for my google account and it’s a stylized picture of me (black&white). Would it help if I point you guys the blog’s name, the gmail address, username of the wordpress account? I have the facebook page that posts my entries automatically. This must be a way to prove my ID.
I know there is the security reason at stake but if you come to think of…if you ask for the reactivation back there are pretty good chances you are the rightful account owner. It’s not like someone knows you can’t access the account and tries to steal it. Just something to think of. I believe there are many others in a similar scenario

Hi phild66,
In order to regain access to your account, the best bet is to try to temporarily regain access to the e-mail associated with the account by contacting your previous employer.
We have a strict policy in place to protect our users from third parties who might try to use our support system to gain access to other users’ accounts.
Have you tried recovering your gmail account? That will most likely be the best bet for you to recover your account.
If you have not tried yet, please fill out our account recovery form, for our account recovery team will be able to best help you:
https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

Hi darnelldibbles,
You see…this is where I have problems. I know about the solution from the link you provided. The thing is I cannot use it as my wordpress account was created (I believe 3 years ago) using another email address (it was a @yahoo one…that has/had my name in it also) that I no longer have access to. Without access I cannot provide any proof like the activation link.
I am interested in finding what else I might be able to do to prove that I am the owner of that blog. It has my avatar (used in the google account that i use at the moment), it is linked to my facebook page so that it automatically shares my articles there when posted here.
Is there any other way?
Thanks

Pictures would not be sufficient proof, but if we are ever able to add other forms of identification, they’ll be added to the form here:
https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recoveryAgain, the best bet for now is to try to recover your email address. Good luck!
