Recovering an Expired Domain

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, Is it possible to recover an expired domain name? How do I go about it? I have a request in through the Support email link but thought I would ask on here as I haven’t had a response yet.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Depends on how long expired and if a squatter has grabbed the domain name for hostage. If the name has only expired a few days you should be able to renew with your dashboard – if it is in Redemption you can still renew it but you need staff help and it will cost you a bit more (set by registrar not WordPress.COM) – if the name has went all the way into the wild and nobody has grabbed it then you can just re-register it like a new domain name.

I will flag this for the staff also.

  • The domain “ncpcsg.org” expired on February 2. It is currently in “redemption” – this means that the domain is deactivated, but has not yet been fully released. During this time, you can still renew this domain, but the process is more complicated then a regular renewal.

If you want to get this domain back, you have several options:

    * We can renew the domain for you, through our registrar. This costs $97, which includes $17 for the domain and an additional cost of $80 for a late renewal. We have no control over this additional cost, as it is levied on us by out domain registrar.

    * Try to register the domain through a domain back-ordering service, such as Pool (Registering starts at $60 with Pool) http://pool.com/

    * Wait until the domain is out of redemption and becomes available for registration again, and then register it again for the regular price of $17. This would run the risk of the domain being registered by someone else before you, or the domain not being released for registration at all. The exact redemption period and the release of the domain are at the discretion of our domain registrar and we can’t control it.

If you want to have the best chance of getting your domain back, your best bet would be the first option – we will renew your domain for you through our registrar and it will be automatically restored to your account.

If you want us to renew the domain for you, please transfer payment through PayPal.

Go to PayPal, and transfer US$97.00 to “(email visible only to moderators and staff)”.

In the comments field, please enter payment “For renewal of domain: ncpcsg.org”.

After you transfer the payment, please reply to this thread and send us the transaction ID you got from PayPal. We will contact our registrar, and they will reactive your domain within a few days, if not hours.

PLEASE NOTE: Time is of the essence here. Because your domain is very close to being cancelled, it may no longer be possible to recover it. If you pay for renewal and we are unable to recover the domain, you will be fully refunded.

I have found myself in the same situation, can I follow the steps above, making a payment through Paypal and forwarding the transaction ID number to you here in this thread or do I need to start a new one…or is there someone I can email the Transaction ID to.
    Thanks so much!
    blockandbattaglia.com

  • Yes, but I’ll need to initially receive the request from the seesterproject user who owned the domain.

    Sorry about that…
Here’s the same request from Seesterproject. :-)

I am having the same problem HOWEVER, I did pay the $97 weeks ago and I still haven’t gotten my domain back. On top of this I just received an email from Pool.com saying that they have found my domain and I have already been charged for $60 since they found it. Does this mean I can be refunded the $97.00 since wordpress did not get my domain?

    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Morgan

Payment Sent (Unique Transaction ID # [ID removed])
    Thank you for your help!

  • seesterproject, I have contacted our registrar partner and will let you now as soon as I hear back.

morganleekestner, it looks like you sent a new support ticket regarding your payment for the domain rather than a reply, so it’s still waiting in line to be addressed with everyone else. I have refunded the $97 you sent and closed out the support ticket.

  • seesterproject, http://blockandbattaglia.com/ has been recovered.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

    staff-blorbo –

After you transfer the payment, please reply to this email and send us the transaction ID you got from PayPal.

Did you send them an email or do you want them to respond with the ID number in this thread? There was some confusion about this in another thread.

  • Whoops, forgot to adapt my snippet for forums use. Thanks for catching that! edited

Yes, will get back to you when done, thanks!

When domain renewal comes up, is there usually an email going out to the domain owner? Anyway, I have never received one, would’ve helped.

Other question, is it possible to retrieve the content without renewal?

    Thanks
