recovering/deleting old website with no details of ownership
-
Hello,
We used to have a website on wordpress back in 2009 sardairelandnorth.wordpress.com, however it’s been 10 years since this website went live and we don’t know who managed it. Problem is that we are currently re-designing our new website http://www.sardairelandnorth.co.uk which we had for a few good years and need to delete the old one. But unfortunately we have no details of who created the original website or who might have login to it. Is there a way we can recover access to the old website to close it down?
I did try ‘recover the account’ but I don’t have any of the three required info to prove the ownership.
Many Thanks,
Gleb -
We cannot reveal who owned the site.
If you have the necessary details, you can try reaching out to our Account Recovery team: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form

Hi, Thanks for getting back.
Well the problem is is that we own the website, we just don’t have access to it, I tried account recovery but I don’t have the necessary details to prove the ownership (as I mentioned it was created by one of our members 10 years ago who has left many years ago, so we can’t trace him down).
Is there a way we can validate with you who we are so you know it is us who owns the website? we can send official letter with headers of our organisation, or you can email our official email address to verify that we are who we are?
Many Thanks! -
We consider ownership to be the account that registered the website, unless that account transferred ownership to another account.
All we can offer is that you reach out to our Account Recovery team to see if you have enough to recover access to that account: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form

Hi,
I tried filling the form, but it wont let me submit due to lack of information, also I cant see an email address for account recovery team either.
Can we please send official letter to wordpress or contact you via official means please?
Thanks. -
Hi there,
If you’re not able to provide any of the verification information required on that form, we cannot give you access.
As staff-blorbo said above, the account, i.e. the individual who created the site is the owner in our eyes, and we can only accept verification information which is unique to that individual.
We have strict rules in place to prevent unauthorised access to our users’ accounts, and we do not make exceptions in this regard.

Hi Thanks!
Although if it was done for Voluntary organisation which we represent?
What would be the official way to contact you please?
Many Thanks! -
Hi Gleb,
Although if it was done for Voluntary organisation which we represent?
The account recovery policy applies to all accounts, even those created for or by voluntary organisations.
What would be the official way to contact you please?
Our account recovery form is the official way to contact us for help with this. The owner will need to provide proof of ownership and send it to us through that form — we won’t be able to work through the next steps without that information.
