Recovering domain name
-
On 12/31/12 I purchased a domain. I shortly found out that wordpress.com had wordpress.org available. This is when I canceled my upgrade and attempted to register the domain with a hosting company. That did not work. I am now at this point. I was informed I have 4 days to recover the domain before waiting up to 2 months for it to become available. Some help please, and thank you.

Hi there,
Sometimes when a domain is registered and deleted in rapid succession the registrar locks it – to stop spammers and domain thieves. Of course, innocents are sometimes caught in the cross fire! The good news is that it is a temporary lock – just 5 days. So you can re-register it in a few more days.
The general rule is that you have 48 hours to cancel a domain without getting charged, but even during that time, the registrar will lock the name for 5 days.
Also, you would have been able to either transfer the domain (after 60 days) or just point your nameservers to the new host, rather than canceling, but that’s a moot point now!
I hope that helps!
