Recovering from a dumb mistake

I have a website using the Rockfield theme. I had extensively changed the Home Page, and used Custom Design to change the CSS.

Today, to help a friend, I was trying out a few new themes by previewing some of them on my site. Unfortunately, I clicked Activate and a theme I didn’t actually want was activated. I immediately reverted to Rockfield, restored the CSS using the latest revision and all my content is still there fine …. except ….

The content and layout of my static Home Page has been lost – the text, the graphic and the design. I can get the text back via The Wayback Machine and the graphic is still in the Media Library, but the Rockfield Home Page is complex, so I’m wondering if someone can help me please:

    1. Shouldn’t the text, graphic and design have been retained?
    2. Is there any way to get it back, or do I have to re-create it?

    Thanks.

I’m sorry to bother anyone, I have found the answer.

Wordpress keeps each version of the Home Page as a Draft in the page list. I just had to select the old one, and it was all there.

    Wordpress 10 – unkleE 0 :)

Thanks for letting us know, unklee. Regardless, I’ve gone ahead and flagged this thread for staff to take note of your feedback.

  • Hi there,

Yes, that’s exactly how it works. Each theme has its homepage layout saved in a page. When you activate a different theme on your site it replaces your current homepage with its own and the previous page is saved a draft.

    Thanks.
