Recovering old WP account
-
When I try to reset the password to my business, it states that the account exists, yet when I try to reset the password it states that the account is deleted. I’m not sure how both states can be. I would like to recover it, or at least recover the name and start over.
I created the account years ago and had a basic website. It has since went dormant. The site was hosted GoDaddy site, and I forgot the exact details of its use, but am actively restarting a new professional project. I was able to recover the Twitter account, create an LLC and I am in the process of creating a new wordpress website, and Akismet directs me to WP to complete signup. I can’t remember the details of this username, other than it was probably assigned to an active email I have, most of the earlier emails were deleted. I cannot complete the recovery form because it asks for keys, 2-pase authentication and others info that no longer exists.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Correction: When I try to log into business account, it states that the username account exists but does not accept the password. Yet, when I try to reset the password it states that the account is deleted. I’m not sure how both states can be. I would like to recover it, or at least recover the name and start over.

Hi there!
What’s the email address you’re trying to use for the account? You can write it on its own line and it will be visible only to the WordPress.com staff.
You mentioned that the site was hosted on GoDaddy, if that’s the case, you may actually be trying to access your WordPress.org account? To clear up any further confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities we, WordPress.com are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is a stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.
You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:
I hope that helps :)

Hi Fresatomica,
Thanks for the reply.
I have a personal WordPress.org site, which required me to get a WordPress.com account so that I could activate Akismet. This personal account is what I am using to submit these questions. Akismet requires me to link to a WordPress.com account to activate it.
When I created the business website, I created a username that matched the domain name, and that email is unknown to the Sign-in and Password Reset pages. When I enter the username, and type the password, it comes back as unrecognized. When I try to reset the password, a page displays saying the username is deleted and to try a recovery. When I try a recovery it asks me about the email key originally sent, 2-phase authentication (which did not exist when I created the username) and I can’t provide those.
When you ask about entering the email account in a single line, where would I enter that, in one of these replies as a single line and that won’t be viewable to non-support people?
Thanks.

I have to write more clearly: Akismet kinked me to a page to create an account. I first tried to create the username, and it said it was already taken–which I knew it was. Then, I tried to log on, with the username, and when I typed in the password, it comes back stating that the password was unrecognized. When I try to reset the password, a page displays saying the username is deleted and to try a recovery…

I meant that you could write your email here, in your reply but nevermind that. If you do have access to the email address with which you have set up that account, use it to send a message to
passwordhelp@wordpress.com. Our Account Recovery team will get back to you :) -

Hi Fresatomica,
This was a self-inflicted injury. I renamed the account to another name and essentially bricked the old name. Christopher S. identified the problem.
[The name] was changed to another username a number of years ago. Once a username is changed, it cannot be reverted.
If you have any other questions, just let us know!
Thank you so much for providing that email. It took the guesswork out of why that username wasn’t working for me… lack of foresight on my part.
Have a great day!
