Recovering post from "404 error."
-
Hello,
I’m getting the “404 Error … File not found” message when I try to open my blog site. From reading a support post, I understand that this may be occurring because of two mistakes (or either of them) I’ve made: (1) I deleted the “Hello Dolly” file permanently, and (2) I re-posted a post changing the date of its publication.
Can you help me correct these errors or otherwise restore my blog: http://islamwest.wordpress.com?
Thanks.
MustafaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When one deletes the Hello World post a 404 (page not found) is the result. This will disappear as soon as you publish your first post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

Hi, Timethief:
Thanks for your response.
I have tried to publish two new posts after getting the “Error 404” message. Each time, after I clicked the Publish button, I got this message:
“The proofreader has suggestions for this post. Are you sure you want to update it?
Press OK to update your post, or Cancel to view the suggestions and edit your post.”I went over the articles, and finding nothing wrong, I clicked the Publish button again, and from the Dashboard, I could preview the posts and see it marked “Published.” But the when I tried to reach my blog by typing in and clicking its URL on the Address Bar, I encountered the “Error 404 – File Not Found” message again and again!
I would appreciate any tips to overcome this dilemma.
Thanks.

If you had clicked “OK” like the message said the post would have published. Go back and edit the posts in question and click “cancel” when the proofreader message appears. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/
If you are having difficulty working with the proofreader then you can disable it. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/proofreading/

RATS! I made a mistake above. I’m sorry. :(
This is correct:If you had clicked “OK” like the message said the post would have published. Go back and edit the posts in question and click “OK” when the proofreader message appears. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/
If you are having difficulty working with the proofreader then you can disable it. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/proofreading/

Yes, I tried clicking OK, etc.,and it didn’t work. The Home Page continues to show Error 404:
http://islamwest.wordpress.com
I’m looking for the option through which I can disable the Proofreading feature and see if that take care of the problem.

To disable proofreading go to this page > Users > Personal Settings
Remove the checkmarks here
Proofreading
Automatically proofread content when:
__a post or page is first published
__a post or page is updated
Click “Save Changes”That should do it. :)

Here is a support document on the proofreading feature.

Timethief, Sacredpath:
Thanks a lot for your tips. I disabled Proofreading, using the User option, and then tried to publish two new posts. The Proofreading message has disappeared, but still, when I try to log on to my blog, I get the same “Error 404” message! I would have abandoned this site and switch to another, but I hate to lose the “islamwest” domain name.

Could it be that you had set a static page as your blog front and then deleted that page? Go to Settings>Reading > “Front page displays” and make sure “Your latest posts” is selected.

Panaghiotisadam,
Thanks a million! You’re right. I had somehow selected the “Static page” option. I’ve re-selected “Latest post,” lo and behold, I can see my Home page when I log in.
I think I should restore the Proofreading feature.
Thanks again to all of you for your tips.

It was, timethief! It just took a single click to restore my blog. Pana sure knows his stuff. By the way, how can I change “islamwest” to a different name as my Support Forum identity?

See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/
This is the main link to all support documentation and the searchbox there returns results form both the documentation and from forum threads.
