Recovering recently deleted domain
-
Hello! I just started using wordpress and mistakenly deleted a domain I ordered confusing it with the site. If at all possible, I would like to undo this and take back the domain (joezoll.com).
Thank you so much,
Joe

Hi Joe,
I see you were also refunded, so you’ll need to pay for the domain again.
Do you plan on using the domain here on WordPress.com or somewhere else?
1) If you plan on using it here, you’ll need a paid plan. So please go ahead and buy that for the site where you want to use the domain, and let us know. Then we can start the process to restore the domain.
2) If you want to use it somewhere else, the simplest option is to wait a few days. By early next week the registry should release the domain, at which point you can register it as a new domain directly where you want to use it.
3) We can send you a link to pay for the domain, and then request our domain provider to restore it. But in this case you’ll only be able to transfer the domain somewhere else once you’ve owned it for at least 60 days.
Also note that we have only a limited time to restore the domain, and it might not succeed. If you pay for the domain again and we cannot restore it, we can refund your payment.
Let me know which option you prefer.

Hello kokkieh,
I still intend to use WordPress.com for building my site, and after paying for it I found a cheaper deal that I can afford better for the domain on GoDaddy.com. This is what led to the refund.
I would assume this entails option 3. I’m having trouble accessing the page paying for it (getting “joezoll.com”) is taken.
Thank you for the help

Hi @joezollny, I’ll send an invoice so you can take option three.
Just to clarify, though, will you be using WordPress.com after all? If so, option 1 would be best: the domain itself is free for the first year with hosting here.
If you’ll be using the free WordPress software and hosting with GoDaddy, option 2 or 3 would work well for you (I’d recommend 2 if you don’t mind using a temporary address for a few days) but there is a significant difference between WordPress and WordPress.com.
Basically, WordPress.com is a service that provides SSL hosting, maintenance, security, and support for your WordPress site. Or, you can install your own copy of the free WordPress software, and handle the rest (hosting, maintenance, security, and support), hiring your own service providers as needed. Most people and companies who use the free software use the resources at WordPress.org to manage their installation on their own.
If you do want our services after all, ignore the invoice, buy a plan, skip the domain option, and update us here. We’ll get the invoice cancelled and help you get the domain restored to your plan.

.. and if all of that is confusing, let us know what questions you have! We’re happy to help. This may help too:

Thank you so much for the help. I may have been mistaken
I intend to purchase the domain from a separate service (most likely GoDaddy) instead of the paid plan. However, I would like to build the website using WordPress software. I think this leads to option 2 like you mentioned. If this is the case, does that mean joezoll.com be available by some time next week? After going on different services (including WordPress.com), I see that joezoll.com is not available.
Apologies for the confusion!

Hi there,
If this is the case, does that mean joezoll.com be available by some time next week? After going on different services (including WordPress.com), I see that joezoll.com is not available.
Because the domain is no longer under our control (it was returned to the registry at the time it was cancelled) we are unable to determine this for sure, but in most cases it will take 60-90 days for the domain to be available again if you decide to wait it out and purchase at GoDaddy.
For the sake of expediency we recommend recovering the domain under your account with us, as we have priority (with the registrar) when asking for it back and can skip the 60 day “redemption” period.
Not to worry though, you can still use the domain for a site (or sites) at GoDaddy, even though it is under your WordPress.com account here. In this case we would just add the settings GoDaddy recommends for connecting outside domains, and you would be able to proceed with a site there immediately. Then in a second step you would be able to seamlessly transfer the domain over to GoDaddy after 60 days has passed.
With this in mind please pay the invoiced amount that @supernovia has sent along to you. Time is of the essence here, as we have a narrow window for asking the domain back. We are not notified when you make payment, so after you pay the invoice please return to this post and let us know you’ve made payment, and we will start the recovery process ASAP.
Thanks!

Thanks. I’ve emailed our domain provider to restore the domain. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from them.
-
@joezollny: thanks for your patience! We were able to recover the domain and restore it to your account.
NOTE: we also had to undelete the site
joezollcom.wordpress.comas the domain needs a site to be associated with in order to manage the domain under your account. If you’re concerned about this site being public when you’re building your site at GoDaddy, you can set it to be private using the settings outlined here:https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/
Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hello! I ‘ve been working on the site recently and noticed that when I go to Upgrades -> Domains, I only see the default domain (https://joezoll68895238.wordpress.com). I thought this may be because they are separate, but I don’t seem to own any other sites.
When I go to Purchases->Billing History, I can see the receipt for the domain restoration, but I can’t work on it at all.
Would appreciate some help with this. Thank you

Sorry about that, I see what went wrong!
The domain is under the
joezollcom.wordpress.comsite, which you should now see under your account.
