Please read this:
Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/
If you do change your blog address, permalinks to your old address, including search engine results, will be broken unless you purchase a Site Redirect upgrade. …
7. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/What you ask to do cannot be done.

You cannot register http://thelaundryhouse.wordpress.com because you don’t have the matching username.
-
Noted. So the only way to get ‘thelaundryhouse’ is by buying am available domain (for example: thelaundryhouse.ce)
-
Yes, you can purchase a domain name via a domain mapping upgrade and then it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL is. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
-
I do not have an existing blog now. I will purchase and start off as thelaundryhouse.ce
In this case, there is no time lost for any mapping, am I right?
-
You have to register a wordpress.com blog first so you can map from it to a domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
I don’t know what you mean by “no time lost for any mapping, am I right?”
Domain mapping is an annually renewable upgrade.
-
What I mean is there is no requirement of mapping because I am directly using thelaundryhouse.ce. And not xxx.wordpress.com to thelaundryhouse.ce
As of now, I will only have thelaundryhouse.ce. One blog, not directed to or re-directed from
-
Do you have the Domain Mapping upgrade? That will be necessary to connect thelaundryhouse.ce to your wordpress.com address.
-

Are you referring to the 72 hours that it takes for a name-server change to propagate across the internet? If so, new domains that have never been used do seem to propagate quicker, but there is still a delay when you might get a message like “the browser cannot resolve the IP address”.
