Recovery Code at Login

  • Unknown's avatar

Why do I always have to send a recovery code to my phone to access my account? I saved backup verification codes on Dec 11, 2013 but every time I login and use a few of these codes, they aren’t any good. I’m not happy to have to enter a recovery code every time I login. Have I set this up incorrectly?

    Hi there,

The point of 2-factor authentication is to have this second step where you enter a code to access your account every time. This secures your account so if some one were able to get your WordPress.com account password somehow, they still wouldn’t be able to access your account without the code. We recommend all our users set this up. However, if you do not want to do this you can disable it through these instructions:

    1) Once you have successfully logged in, please go here:

    https://wordpress.com/?ssl=forced#!/settings/security/

    2) Click on the “Generate Backup Codes” button and print a copy of your backup codes. If you do not see the backup codes please ensure that the window they appear in was not blocked by your browser.

    3) Once you have printed your codes, click on the “Disable” button next to the status under Two Step Authentication.

    4) At the prompt, enter the first code from your list of backup codes and click the “Disable” button.

You should now see that Two Step Authorization is disabled on your account. If you’d like to enable Two Step Authentication again in the future please see this guide below:

    Enable Two-Step Authentication
