recovery of wordpress site
-
I have been a WordPress blogger since 2014. I have been trying to change the email address that I use on WP. My old email address is an AOL one which I hardly ever use so I want to change to my Gmail address. However WP say that I can’t use it because they have a record of it already. This is because I tried to change the address in 2018 but eventually gave up because I found it all too confusing. I also want to change my payment method from Paypal to bank card. The AI assistant told me I should talk to a human but then told me that human chats were only for people with a paid account. I have a paid account and I also paid for my domain for the first time last March. This is a recurring payment I think. I have now been told by AI that my log in details do not tally with the other details so I have been locked out of my account and have been refused permission to recover my blog. What have I done wrong and what can I do now? I am not technically minded and find the whole thing very confusing. I also changed my user name before I lost the account so I now have no idea which user name and/or email address to quote when trying to explain myself.

It doesn’t sound like you’ve done anything wrong. This usually happens when there have been multiple changes to email, username, or payment details over time, which can confuse the system. Since you have a paid WordPress.com account and an active domain, the best thing to do now is to contact WordPress support and ask for a human agent to manually verify your account.
Try to share any info you still have, like old billing emails, payment dates, or domain details. Even if you’re not sure about the exact username or email, payment history usually helps them find your account. It’s frustrating, but support should be able to help you get access back.
