Recreating a previous website
-
I am new to constructing a website and am currently working on a project which requires reconstructing a previous website. I have an image of what the homepage should look like (ideally) and am wondering if I will be able to use wordpress to recreate it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi giraffe7,
Do you have a link to an example of the changes you would like to make to ddresearchclusters.wordpress.com? Once I know more, I can check what will be possible.
Thanks!

Hi there! Actually, I would like to ask a different question regarding the site: https://wordpress.com/view/dialoguesanddiasporas.wordpress.com
I have 2 questions:1) I need to edit the program which is currently posted as a pdf. Do I need to remove it and replace it with a program in a different format or if I can edit it in its current pdf format?
2) Each of the people who gave a paper provided a written prosposal of their talk. I would like to create a link to their paper/presentation proposal and am not sure how to do that (create a page with a link?).
Thanks!

Hi @giraffe7,
1) You’ll want to delete the old PDF and remove its link, then upload a new PDF and link in the Program document.
2) Did you want to create pages for each person who gave a paper, or do you want to mention the paper contents on a list page like this one?
Let us know and we’ll try to point you in the right direction.

Hi Supernovia:
Regarding my question 2 above:
I am not sure whether I should have a “Presentation Proposals” page or individual pages for each presenter. Each page would then have the presenter’s name and presentation proposal.
If I had a “Presentation Proposals” page I would then link each presenter to the page. So, could I use an anchor so that when anybody clicked on the presenter’s name in the program they would be taken to the presenter’s proposal on the Presentation Proposal page? I wouldn’t want people to have to scroll down the whole page to find the presenter they were looking for.
What would work best?Thanks!

Hi there:
I forgot to ask: Can’t I just edit the program page (pdf) in edit mode on WordPress? -
Hi there,
I am not sure whether I should have a “Presentation Proposals” page or individual pages for each presenter. Each page would then have the presenter’s name and presentation proposal.
That’s up to you, but you can create either layout on WordPress.com.
Can’t I just edit the program page (pdf) in edit mode on WordPress?
I’m not quite sure what you mean by that. Can you give me more information on that or even give me an example?

There is a program on the website “Program” page. Can I edit it in edit mode? Previously, one of the WordPress staff members said that I need to delete the old PDF and remove its link, then upload a new PDF and link in the Program document.
But I have it open in edit mode and it seems like I can edit the program without deleting it and uploading a new PDF. -
Hi – Can you send me a link this area of the site. Happy to have a look and see how things are set up. I didn’t find it when looking at https://ddresearchclusters.wordpress.com/. Is that the site you are working on? Or is it a different one?

Is there a limit to the number of pages I can create for this site? https://wordpress.com/page/dialoguesanddiasporas.wordpress.com/43
I would like to create a page which has two paragraphs of text for each presenter and there are approximately 90 presenters.
Thanks!

There is not a limit to the number of pages on a site. You might run in to issues with your menu display though if trying to link all of them in to the site menu.

Thanks for that information. I can also create a Presentation Proposal page on which I load all the proposals. Then, can I create a hyperlink for each presenter in the program which links to their presentation summary on the Presentation Proposal page? I guess I would have to use an anchor then?
Thanks a ton!

Yes you can set up a page designated to this purpose. There’s not any issue with creating hyperlinks to outsourced materials either.
The proposals can be added to the page through direct input or embed, link, tag, category… There’s several ways to group the information in to one place.
