Recurring category import issue

A couple of months ago I did a big import from one WP blog to another and when I did it created a new category for each post. That is, say I had 50 posts with the Sports category, on import it created 50 new Sports categories with one post in each. A complete trainwreck. At that time I contacted you guys and it turns out this was a new bug. You fixed it, and I thought the problem had been solved for good. But I just did another import (smaller, this time) and the same thing happened again.
Help? I’d hate to go through this every time I have to port something over.
The blog I was exporting from is ScholarsAndRogues.com and the import target is LullabyPit.wordpress.com.

I’ve manually fixed the duplicate categories, leaving this one for now because it seemed to be a slightly different case than the others:
Politics, Law & Government – 5 posts
Politics/Law/Government – 536If you’d like me to consolidate those too, just let me know.
Our developer is investigating the root cause of this issue to see if we can prevent it from happening in the future.

I managed the Politics categories – that was simple enough. Many thanks, and let me know if you come up with a fix. Or maybe I’m doing something wrong – either way, I appreciate your help.
