Recurring Charge on Credit Card

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to stop what is a recurring fraudulent charge on my credit card. Every year in February for the last three years WordPress continues to charge me 26.00 for some type of domain hosting fee. When I look at my account, none of my credit information is saved and I do not pay anything additional for a custom domain to be hosted anywhere… this is starting to become infuriating and I’m wondering how do I reach out to WordPress to stop them from constantly charging me? There is no customer service contact number so I don’t know what to do… Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi matthewemurray,

I am trying to stop what is a recurring fraudulent charge on my credit card. Every year in February for the last three years WordPress continues to charge me 26.00 for some type of domain hosting fee.

Sorry you feel infuriated about the charges but WordPress.com will never charge you if you are not subscribed to a plan.

I will tag this a “Modlook” for a staff to look into the charges and the plan which you are on. Please be patient, they will take it up from here

    I hope this helps

  • Hi there,

I would be happy to assist you in cancelling and refunding your purchase. However, the upgrade that was purchased is not associated with the account you contacted us from. To confirm ownership, post in this thread under the username/account that purchased the upgrade. Then, I can look into refunding the subscription purchase.

If you do not remember the account that the upgrade is under, you might want to look back in your records to see if you still have the transaction confirmation from the last time the domain was renewed at WordPress.com.

All our payments are processed by PayPal (even if you paid directly with a credit card).

With the credit card information, you can fill out the form at http://wpchrg.com to receive the receipt with the transaction ID.

Also, PayPal can provide you with this transaction ID, which we can then verify on our end. It’s a 17-digit number. You can reach them at:

    1-888-221-1161
1-402-935-2050 (if calling from outside the U.S.)

You can find additional ways to contact PayPal here:

    https://www.paypal.com/us/contactus

When contacting PayPal, please have the following details of the transaction ready:

    – Name on card
    – Amount and date of transaction
    – Card number

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

    Darnell,

    Thank you for your insights.

I have used the website you linked and looked up the charge through multiple means (the transactions ID, my credit details, etc.) but no luck in finding which URL I’m funding… even with the transaction ID from the credit card statement, it does not give me a receipt.

I only know of two accounts that I’ve utilized. Unfortunately, neither of these two accounts contain any credit card information.

I also do not believe I am paying from PayPal as there is no transaction log on my PayPal account that reflects this. It is merely a charge to my Chase account.

So I’m still in a pickle. Perhaps there is an old WordPress account associated with another email somewhere… but all my guesses are coming up empty.

I am based in the U.S.

    Kindly,
    Matt

We use PayPal as a payment processor for credit card transactions, so even if you paid directly by card PayPal is one way the transaction could have been processed. In that case it wouldn’t show in your PayPal account.

To look for this transaction I’ll need some additional information that cannot be posted here in the public forums, so I’ve sent you an email to request that. Please reply there so I can continue helping with this.
