Reddle theme – black margins on featured images

Please can someone help me with reddles featured images? I would like to be able to have a featured image on all posts so they show up on my home page with the first paragraph of the post – it helps me with knowing who has read what post in my stats.

I’ve tried all sorts of images but they all leave black margins when viewing on an ipad. The images look fine when viewing on a computer. I would like it to look good in mobile format as I know people use ipads to read my blog.

Thank you if you can help.

  • Hi there, I checked your homepage for renovatingrose.wordpress.com on my iPad but I’m not seeing any images in your post excerpts. I also looked at some single posts but I’m seeing the same thin grey borders that I do when I look at them on my computer.

If you want to completely remove the border around your images, that would take some custom CSS, but I’m not certain that’s what you’re after.

Would it be possible to upload a screenshot of the images as you see them on your iPad to help in troubleshooting?

Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/#iphone-ipad-or-ipod-touch

You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

Hi – thanks for your reply. If you take a look at the post ‘So you’re staying here tonight then?’ I have a featured image on that post which shows on the home page. You have to click older posts.

I can get a screen shot if you prefer.

Thanks for pointing out a specific example. Here is the link to that post for reference:

I can see the black bars you’re referring to if I check using the Responsive Design Mode feature in Firefox’s browser tools. Here is a screenshot:

I researched this, and I found that it is an intentional part of the theme’s design. What’s happening is that the HTML container around the image has been given a black background, so when the content column width is wider than the image then the black will show. It looks to me like that might have been done by the original theme designer because they thought it would make featured images look better centered.

It’s a matter of preference if you don’t like it though. Nothing is broken in the theme.

There is a way to make modifications to a theme’s design, but it requires purchasing a plan which includes Custom Design. The plans start at $99 per year. Does that something you would be interested in trying out so you can make design modifications to your theme?
