Redesign Site w/out Having interim process visible

  I want to apply a new theme and organization to an existing WordPress.com site. Realistically, it will take me a while to make the change, and I don’t want the site visible during the changeover. Is there any way to create a copy of a site in WordPress.com, make the changes to the other site, and then replace the old design with the new design?

  You may set the site visibility to private at Settings > Reading.

  You can use export and import to create a virtual copy of a site. However, transferring changes made to site B to site A, if extensive, might involve another round of exporting and importing.
