Redirect doesn't accept my new domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to buy a redirect to my new domain http://www.wholelattecoffe.com. However, when I enter the url into the field I only receive the message:

Your blog cannot be redirected to that URL. Please make sure the URL is valid.

I’ve tried the following variations of the url:
    http://www.wholelattecoffee.com
    http://www.wholelattecoffee.com
    wholelattecoffee.com

Please help me out here? I have no idea what I might be doing wrong.

    Thanks,

    Sebastiaan Swinkels

for starters wholelattecoffe.com does not seem to be registered unless you registered it in the last few minutes – a domain name needs to be registered before it can be used for anything

do you want wholelattecoffe.com to be displayed when people visit your blog sebastiaanswinkels.wordpress.com.?

if so then you need to register wholelattecoffe.com and map it to your blog here

I just now see that I made a typo in the very first sentence, go figure xD

Anyways, the domain name should read http://www.wholelattecoffee.com (triple checked it now). It doesn’t display much right now, it’s in maintenance / coming soon mode.

I’m now hosting a wordpress installation on my own server (hosted by a 3rd party) and already imported my current wordpress.com blog into that one. I just can’t seem to get the 301 redirect option purchased from wordpress.com’s store since it doesn’t accept the url, even when I triple check its spelling.

Outside of checking the spelling again, that’s about all I can suggest

I have flagged this for the staff to help

    Hi Sebastiaan,

Sorry for the trouble! Our system checks the domain name you enter when you set up a site redirect, and that check is running into an HTTP error on your domain. I took a look at your site, and it’s possible that error is just coming up because of the maintenance mode plugin you have there.

You may want to try temporarily disabling that plugin and then setting up the site redirect. Alternately, I just sent you an email with more details so I can help you get the site redirect set up without making any changes to your site. :)
