Redirect domain from another registrar to wordpress site, using free WP plan
-
Hi again,
Got it, so, if I understand it correctly, after transferring domain registration to WP:
- no masking
- SSL would work
- domain URL would open the free site automatically, no need for me to do anything, just transfer domain registration
- WP would still make some money, right?
Yes that is correct on all counts. Specifically we’re happy to walk you through things to be sure that your site displays at the custom address and not the WordPress.com address as it does currently. Additionally SSL will be configured and added automatically, and the sitemap shared with search engines automatically as well.
Thanks!

If I transfer domain from another registrar AND get a paid plan, the cheapest one: for $5 per month, would I get:
- URL masking
- SSL (I guess so)
- Transfer domain for free for one year, after one year it will be $18 per year
- No ads (or at least less)
- Ability to remove “Design a site like this with WordPress.com” from header and whatever is there, similar, from the footer ?
If so on all points, I’m almost convinced to go with the paid plan

Is your response referring to a paid plan, even the cheapest one?
From the other responses above I understood that free plan would not have URL masking, even if I transfer domain registration to WP.
But, with WP controlling domain, but me using free plan it would still get SSL and the domain URL would open the free plan site automatically. Is this correct?
And yes, I got the point about the excessive ads and seeing the free plan site URL instead of domain URL in the browser’s address bar.

Hi again,
Is your response referring to a paid plan, even the cheapest one?
Yes, all our paid plans (if you choose the annual billing option) include a free domain transfer or a free domain for the first year if you don’t already have one. As well you can turn off all ads under the plans as well. The Premium and Business plans differ in that you can turn ads on again (if you want) but make money from them.
But, with WP controlling domain, but me using free plan it would still get SSL and the domain URL would open the free plan site automatically. Is this correct?
For this specifically I wanted to point out that free sites (aka the “free plan”) has to use it’s wordpress.com address, but yes we add SSL to that automatically. Upgrading to any plan plan allows you to to instead use a custom site address, to which we also add SSL automatically.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for the provided info. This account was upgraded to the paid plan, as y’all have suggested. Will see how it goes.
BTW, bug:
If I use “ctrl -” to resize screen on Firefox or Brave – the screen boundaries are also resized, I have to refresh the page to go back to normal.
This doesn’t happen on other sites. -
Thanks for reporting that. You are referring to this forum post, something you are seeing on your site? Thanks for the additional info!

Hey there,
Hmm, interesting – does this happening with Chrome also?
Do you see mobile menu also when moving the site back to it’s original size? Also, are you able to point me to an area where this is prominent, so that we can see what you’re seeing please?
Many thanks.
