Redirect Error – Google Search Console

  • Unknown's avatar

@supernovia I received an answer back from Google search console, but it still says my two pages were not able to be indexed due to a redirect error and the validation failed. Any other ideas on how to fix this/figure out what the problem is?

I just got the same response from Google too :(

  • Hi @julztravels to clarify, the reply from Google was just to re-state the info that you already can see in Search Console? Or did they have any additional info to add for context?

Any other ideas on how to fix this/figure out what the problem is?

Also I saw you mentioned that Google gave you the option to fix based on this, yes?

yes, I clicked that and got some green check marks saying that the page can be indexed then hit request indexing again. I assume now I just wait to see if it works when google crawls the page again?

To clarify, this had no effect? Google still maintains these pages can’t be indexed as indicated by their staff?

@pieroboneducation did you also try the “Test Live URL” solution that was mentioned by staff here? How did that work out for you?

To you both, we’re a bit stumped because everything on our end checks out with these pages, so we can’t think of anything else to try. Those pages are public, indexable, and not being blocked from crawling on our end. Visiting the pages themselves there is nothing that stands out about the content that would lead to it causing this kind of issue.

It is entirely possible this is an issue on Google’s end, and there is not a solution we can offer to work around that.

@staff-totoro there was not any additional info that I can find. From my understanding, google thinks there is a redirect error. I tried the “test live URL” which said the page could be indexed, so I asked google to index again. The email I received most recently seems to say that they are still unable to index because of the same redirect error.

@staff-totoro if this is any issue on google’s end, is there somewhere I can go to get help from google?

@staff-totoro I’m having exactly the same isue as @julztravels. I’ve tried to fix the error by clicking on “Validate and Fix”. I’ve tried “Try live URL” as instructed and no help either. I confirm that I’ve tried the things you quoted and they didn’t help…

Google doesn’t give any additional info so I can’t report more details. I’m technically skilled, so I’m pretty sure I’m not missing anything. I understand you’re perplexed, since our websites are very simple and there shouldn’t be such issues… Do you have any other ideas on how to proceed?

  • I clicked that and got some green check marks saying that the page can be indexed then hit request indexing again.

Is that what you got too, @pieroboneducation?

If Google’s interface says the problem is that the pages are redirected, but they aren’t redirected, and when you check the live URL the page can be indexed, then the system comes back saying it can’t be indexed, my best guess is that there’s some kind of error on their end. Have you or @julztravels reached out to their support?

  • If it helps, here’s a place where you can read potential solutions (I think we’ve exhausted them but please do check) then post to the Google community.

I would be sure to mention that you got green checks saying it can be indexed, but then it doesn’t index anyway, and that we’ve confirmed there are no redirects.

You might also check with them to see whether they’re treating /pagename/ vs /pagename differently. If it’s that and you’re linking to /pagename on your site anywhere, you might try adding slashes.

Hi @supernovia, apologies for the delay in reponse – I’ve got the flu.

Yes, my webpages also get green checks saying they can be indexed. I just submitted this issue to the Google Community Help so I’m hoping they will be able to assist.

I also got in touch directly with Google Help team via a form in Google Search Console, but they said that they only reply if they can help…

    I’ll keep you updated!
