  • Hi,

Google generally doesn’t like redirect setups like that. I suspect it sees them as disingenuous and worries that they are spam/scam sites.

The way to fix this is to purchase a WordPress.com plan (the Personal plan will work great for this) and then connect your domain to it using these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

Then not only will you have your URL working properly, you won’t see ads on your site and will have more media storage space.

Take a look and let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

Hi Many thanks for your reply, is there any way that I can do this as a free service. I pay for the url and redirect to my free wordpress site.

  • I’m not sure that we understood. What is the URL you are redirecting? You are trying to make it appear that the address of the site is a custom address, and not mikehornett.wordpress.com as we show it in our system? Thanks for the additional info!

Hi there, so what I am doing is redirecting http://www.almond-grove.org to <mikehornett.wordpress.com> now that works and shows up as http://www.almond-grove.org what is not happening is, if person wants to look at purchasing a Villa in Alcossebre, Google or any search engine just dosn’t pick it up. How can I get Google to search. I bet its me not having the correct tags on my Home page. Where do I do that and will Google pick it up.

  • Hi there,

I checked your redirect status, and it’s a 200 redirect, so it should index your content just fine moving forward, but I am not seeing a 301 redirect status, which best preserves your current search engine results. How long ago did you set up the redirect?

I agree with @staff-ozmodiar’s suggestion that purchasing a plan and connecting the domain would yield the best results, but in terms of a free service, this will work as long as the redirects are set up properly.

    Hope this helps.

Hi there, I am still wanting to know if I can use a free wordpress site. <(email visible only to moderators and staff)> you seem suggest that I may not have set up the redirect correctly. <www.almond-grove.org> Can you advise anything please. I dont really want a plan because its really only a play site. Shoud I set up the redirect again and see what happens. I have have the free site for a number of years but it has never shown on any search engines. what about moving the URL to wordpress. Is it possible that there are incorrect tags or something, your help to sort this is appreciated.

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

I am still wanting to know if I can use a free wordpress site.

WordPress websites are free by default. Currently, mikehornett.wordpress.com has no active plan attached to the site.

Although free, there are limitations to what you can do. Please see a full price and plan comparison here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ to explore these limitations.

I have have the free site for a number of years but it has never shown on any search engines. what about moving the URL to wordpress. Is it possible that there are incorrect tags or something, your help to sort this is appreciated.

It could be that Google is yet to crawl and index the site. Driving traffic to the site might help with this, and this guide here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/ explains how to do that.

Setting up the redirect will also help to drive that traffic.

To confirm the redirect, are you looking to connect the domain http://www.almond-grove.org to mikehornett.wordpress.com? If yes, this can be done as per these steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

    I hope this helps.
