Redirect .home.blog domain with www

  Hi everyone,

  My sister is getting married, so she created a website with a domain name like ‘example.home.blog’. On the wedding announcement (which she has already sent), she wrote ‘www.example.home.blog’.

  So when the guests want to connect on her website they have an error message ‘this connection is not private’.

  Is it possible to redirect ‘www.example.home.blog’ to ‘example.home.blog’ to avoid this error?

  Is the unnamed site definitely hosted here at WordPress.com? Because here, anyone typing the (now becoming obsolete) three “w”s at the front of an address will be seamlessly transferred to a secure https address.

  Yes the website is hosted at WordPress.com, my sister use the “home.blog” free domain.

  When I visit the website, I’m not redirect to https. I have an ‘this connection is not private’ error.

  I guess url ‘www.example.home.blog’ is a subdomain inside another subdomain. That’s why it doesn’t work.

  Hi @pauld75, if you’ll send us the site link we’ll take a look.

  Do note that https://www.example.home.blog will not work. You’ll want to link without www.

  @supernovia I’ve just tried another site with an open thread here: https://caitlynbrewster.home.blog/ If I remove https and put 3 “w”s I get the same error. However free sites like mine ending in .wordpress.com have no such issues redirecting from 3 “w”s to secure https.

  Thanks, I’ll mention it to our systems team to see if there’s something they can do about that.

  Generally though, if you link to https://www.whatever.wordpress.com, you’re going to get an error anyway, so I recommend against linking with www at all.

  My website is http://www.louiseamaurywedding.home.blog

  Thank you Supernovia to report this error. I know it’s better to don’t use “www” but some people (like my sister) doesn’t know this. I think it will be nice to fix it.

  Hi folks, here’s what we were able to do:

  – They were able to fix it so that http://www.velda.home.blog now redirects to https://velda.home.blog, no SSL errors.

  – https://www.velda.home.blog still shows an SSL error, because we don’t have certificate coverage for that on any of our free subdomains.

  – BUT, if you order a custom domain, you will get the www certificate included for free.
