Redirect Issue in Transferring to WordPress Hosting

Hey WordPress team, we want to move over our hosting services to you. We currently use WordPress to design our pages, but want it to be our host service as well. Question for you before we move over: when it was initially built, our site was set up under http://www.goldstandardtax.net. I understand WordPress is installed onto an IP address itself and allows what the URL should be within the internal wordpress settings which allows the hosted site to work under “http://www.goldstandardtax.com” (.com NOT .net) We have .com resolving directly onto the IP address o the hosting service “.net”. So if we move our files over, will this redirect still be in place? Or will it need to be set up again? Thanks in advance

  • Hey there, welcome to our services! The redirects and resolvers here work a bit differently from most hosts, so if you’re using .htaccess or something similar right now, we won’t be using that. Basically you’d connect both domains and set one as primary, and that’s that. We’d automatically 301 redirect to the preferred name. I just want to point out we’ll generally use the domain without WWW because of our our SEO optimization is set up here. If you have questions about that, let us know!

In many cases, we can help you import the full site using these steps. I’d recommend doing that, having a look at the site to make sure everything’s intact after the move, then you can point the domain here.

I’d imagine you have other questions, so we’ll be here if you need help! Once you have your plan, you’ll chat support, too, which you can find here. Cheers!
