Redirect loop error after domain name transfer completed
-
Hi,
I had the transfer of domain name ‘heartsofkyber.com’ complete from namecheap.com to wordpress.com this morning, but when I set @heartsofkyber.com’ as my primary site address, it doesn’t work.
‘heartsofkyber.com’ shows redirect errors in Firefox, Chrome and Edge. In the latter 2, it alternates after a few seconds between “heartsofkyber.com redirected you too many times.” and “heartsofkyberdotcom.wordpress.com redirected you too many times.”
This seems to indicate a redirect loop.
When I switch back to ‘heartsofkyberdotcom.wordpress.com’ as primary address, both this and ‘heartsofkyber.com’ will open the page and show ‘heartsofkyberdotcom.wordpress.com’ in the address bar.
I saw a similar issue with another user here:
https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/redirect-loop-after-domain-purchase/
and so gave it a couple of hours+ switched back to ‘heartsofkyberdotcom.wordpress.com’ and then made ‘heartsofkyber.com’ the primary address again, as you’d advised with that similar issue.
This hasn’t resolved the issue, so I’d appreciate if you can look into it.
I’ve switched back to ‘heartsofkyberdotcom.wordpress.com’ as the primary address for now so that the site can be accessed.
Thanks.

Sorry, that should be ‘heartsofkyber.com’, not @heartsofkyber.com’ in the first sentence above.

I don’t see any of the problems you mentioned; https://heartsofkyber.com/ works fine for me. Clearing your browser cache and cookies most of the time solve this problem.

Hi staartmees,
Thanks for checking.
The redirect issue doesn’t seem to be happening anymore – perhaps the advice in the other post I linked to was good and it just needed a bit more time – and I noticed that my primary site had been changed back to ‘heartsofkyber.com’ (I had been clearing all browser data between each attempt to connect with the site, so it wasn’t that).
However, I am having further issues:
1) The site on all desktop browsers is inaccessible and defaults to attempting an insecure connection, returning a message, e.g. Chrome returns “This heartsofkyber.com page can’t be foundNo webpage was found for the web address: http://heartsofkyber.com/
HTTP ERROR 404”If I type “https://heartsofkyber.com” into the address bar after closing and clearing all browser data, it returns a timeout error.
To add to the confusion, I AM able to access the site via mobile browsers from Android phone (Firefox and Chrome, both show secure connection).
I’m not having issues with any other sites with desktop browsers.
2) The second issue is that, since the transfer went through, my linked Professional Email sends but doesn’t receive emails.
-
Just to add, I reinstalled clean versions of desktop browsers with all settings and data cleared when uninstalled and the issue persists.
I’ve also cleared data from mobile browsers and they’re no longer able to access the site, returning the same errors now as desktop browsers.
Before this, I’d also checked if I could visit the site from the link in the WordPress mobile app, and this returned the same error as desktop browsers.

I’ve cleared all data from mobile browsers and they’re now showing the same issues as desktop browsers.
I’ve managed to resolve the issue with email.
It seems WordPress.com hadn’t added required DNS MX records, which I understand fall under ‘Handled by WordPress.com’, so I tried adding these manually, based on guidance on Titan support pages here, so can consider that resolved, but still need to sort out the main issue.
If it’s possible to check the DNS records that are ‘Handled by WordPress.com’, that might be a good place to start, given that that was the source of the other issue?

With a combination of support from live chat and my own efforts, these issues are now resolved. Thanks @staartmees for chipping in to help.
