Redirect loop for images

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello, WP.com community!
I’d sure love your help. It appears all my images (today’s new blog post, plus all in the past posts, but not images on pages) lead to a fail page, “This webpage had a redirect loop, ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS.”

I checked in past forum posts, and don’t see anything that applies to me: I haven’t changed anything with my blog, domain, or mapping for years. (Domain mapping from KiefferCeramics.com to WordPress.com is current and DNS is listed at WP as correct. Nameservers at Hover currently listed as ns1.wordpress.com, ns2… and ns3…) The redirect happens on both Safari and Chrome. I’ve cleared my cache and cookies. My followers are also experiencing the fail page.

I’d sure love your help at this crucial time of year!
    Best, Kristen

    Still need help…

And to clarify, the fail happens when an image in any blog post is clicked (unless linked to another site), as well as when my subscribers to my blog posts click an image in their email.

This is stifling my ability to continue holiday promotion and is exasperating. Any leads would be most welcome, thank you for your time!

Thanks for responding, TimeThief! (I think you your suggestion means post a link to an image that doesn’t go to my online store…)

Here is a link to one of the images from a current blog post, which leads to the fail page that every image on my blog is experiencing:

    Thank you, TimeThief and WP!

  • Hi there,

We have had several reports of this issue, and our developers are working on a fix for it. I will let you know here once they figure it out.

Meanwhile, this problem specifically affects images that are linking to the Image Attachment page. As a workaround for now, I suggest you link your images to the Media File instead. If you use the WP-Admin editor you will see that option to the right of the screen when you insert a new image. If you use the new editor, insert an image and then click the link icon in the toolbar to add a link to the media file to the image.

You can also edit your existing posts in the WP-Admin editor to change this link setting. In the editor, click on the image and click the pencil icon to edit. Then look for the Image Attachment settings under Advanced Options. Select the Media File option, update the image, and update the post once you’ve changed it for all images.

I’ll give you an update as soon as I get more information on this.

Just checked out my images, and it seems to be all fixed! Thanks for your response, kokkieh, and remedying the problem.

  • You might be interested to know that this was tracked down to a problem in WordPress core, where it has been fixed for the 4.4 release.

    @tellyworth- thanks, Alex!

@kiefferceramics – In general you may wish to consider using the Photo Carousel to display your Gallery photos. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/media-settings/#image-gallery-carousel
