redirect name servers question

Hi, I am trying to redirect my wordpress.com blog to my new host. I’ve changed the servers from wordpress ones to my servers. I did not click on the ‘Remove’ to delete the wordpress ones, but just typed in my new ones. I hit ‘Saved changes’. it gives me a message of ‘Success, the name servers for this domain have been changed…’
I did this last night. i realize it can take 72 hours, but when i go back into to look at the domains, the wordpress ones are back in there, and the new servers are not. is this ok? should the new ones be there instead? my site is still showing at my old .com, not on the new hosting site. my blog is Stonecropsister.com.

thanks for any help or confirmation of instructions you can give me.
    Nancy

  • What are the nameservers you are trying to switch to?

    InMotion Hosting:

    i put in:
    ns.inmotionhosting.com
    ns2.inmotionhosting.com

do you think i did something wrong, or is it normal for it to switch back to the wordpress servers, and perhaps the change will happen anyway in the next 48 hours?

  • i put in:
    ns.inmotionhosting.com
    ns2.inmotionhosting.com

I have added those for you, let’s see if they stick.

I am unsure. Let’s give it a day or so and see what happens.

Hi, just checking in, and seeing that the inmotion name servers are again not showing, it’s back to the wordpress ones. what should i do? there must be an issue with my account. is there anyone else you could check with, I really appreciate your help, but I did this on Monday night, it should have gone through by now. if the inmotion nameservers were showing and it hadn’t gone through, I would be more inclined to think that it was just going to take more than 72 hours, but i think it is something else. if you could let me know what you would recommend, i would really appreciate it.

  • It appears that your domain is unlocked and has a pending domain transfer request. Did you try to transfer your domain to another registrar? This may be what is causing the nameservers not to save.

hi, I paid WordPress.com for my domain. but they got it from Wild West. so when I went to redirect the servers, I couldn’t because I had also specified private rather than public. I spent an hour on the phone with Wild West (domains by proxy) and finally we were able to reset my password making domain public. I then was able to also get the authentication code. Wild West suggested I also transfer domain to InMotion Hosting. They said it would not interfere with the redirection of the name servers, they were separate things. so i guess I was given inaccurate information. If this is the problem, i guess it will be fixed in a couple of weeks. what a nightmare.

hi, the domain transfer has now gone through to Inmotion, just thought I would let you know. I have put in the new servers, still not seeing the change, but i am expecting there should not be any further issue with this, and this is just a normal couple of hours delay. thanks for your help.

  • Glad that it all got sorted out.
