Redirect to a specific page?
-
Hi
I know that it is possible to move a domain to be a secondary domain to another one here on WordPress. I recently did it when I moved my mrdthrift.com as secondary to my ddavidd.com
I am now considering to move my f2fw.com domain to be secondary to my ddavidd.com as well, and maybe another one as well (I’m consolidating some of my domains to redirect to may primary domain because I haven’t been working on this other websites, and saving some money would be beneficial so that I can redirect the funds in the future to a business site that I can use Woocommerce on.
Anyway my question is, knowing that I can make either domain I have a secondary to whatever other site I own here, is it possible to take f2fw.com and redirect it to a specific page on the site? For example, if I created a page at ddavidd.com/f2fw, would I be able to make f2fw.com a secondary to ddavidd.com, but redirect specifically to ddavidd.com/f2fw, or is it just going to redirect to the main url at ddavidd.com regardless once I make f2fw.com a secondary to ddavidd.com?
I tried to explain that question without making it confusing lol.

Heya!
To clarify, are you saying you’d like your WordPress.com domains (i.e. f2fw.com) to redirect to a particular page in ddavidd.com (e.g. ddavidd.com/f2fw)?
If so, here are a couple of options:
1. Site Redirect Upgrade – $13 USD/year
(https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/)With the linked instructions above, I believe you can redirect to a specific page but not specific files. So for hypothetical example, https://ddavidd.com/favourite-fruits would work, whereas https://ddavidd.com/fruits-list.pdf wouldn’t.
While the upgrade does cost around $13 USD per year, this is the only option for free WordPress.com sites.
2. Plugin Redirects – $320 USD/year
For sites with a plugin-enabled plan, you can install a redirection plugin inside your “secondary” site (i.e. f2fw.com) to redirect to ddavidd.com
From a quick check, it looks like “301 Redirects – Easy Redirect Manager” by WebFactory Ltd might be useful; lots of installations, recently updated, highly rated, free for at least one URL, and does the job based on my test. I recommend checking out alternatives, just to be sure.
However, this requires a plugin-enabled plan, which is at least $320 USD per year and might not quite align with your fund saving intentions.
I hope this helps. I’ll surely get back to you if I spot any alternatives, particularly cost saving ones!

I didn’t realize there is a specific option for a site redirect. I just knew that it is possible to make a domain a secondary under another domain and it will redirect to the primary domain. If you type in mrdthrift.com you will see that it redirects to my ddavidd.com and I didn’t have to pay anything to make that happen. All I had to do was go into my purchases and from there went under domain settings (I think) and did the transfer. So I keep the ownership of the mrdthrift.com domain and it just redirects to my other website, but I don’t have to hold a plan for the mrdthrift.com domain until I’m ready to put it back on it’s own plan as a primary domain for it’s own website (it was previously primary to mrdthrift.wordpress.com which I’m currently not maintaining). I will keep this info however as a future reference. It’s always nice to know there is more than one way to accomplish something.
2. Plugin Redirects – $320 USD/year
I’m not interested in paying that much for a plugin. I would rather go buy another domain and set up a business set for that much money even though I wish the Pro plan was still available (maybe WordPress will plug in to the pricing board between the Premium and Business plan – hint hint staff members).
I’m grateful for all the info you provided for me @josegreyes94
I know all this stuff is in the support pages, but sometimes I don’t know what to search for when I consider making some changes.
Thanks for your help.

I meant to add that if I do make the f2fw.com domain into a redirect, I’ll probably just do the same thing I did with the mrdthrift.com domain and have it redirect to ddavidd.com…. but also I could just decide to let the f2fw.com domain disappear to the domain graveyard lol.
Thanks again for your help.

That’s genuinely interesting! I was under the impression that there was always a fee for domain connection (domain mapping), either as a separate upgrade (discontinued option) or as an included feature in paid plans.
Either way, thank you for the clear and informative explanation!
From what I can tell, the method you previously used cannot link to specific directories, at least with reference to a certain FAQ (https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/#frequently-asked-questions).
(I.e. no to ddavidd.com/f2fw, yes to ddavidd.com — as you’ve done before)

From what we’ve discussed, and after spending some hours reading up on the topic, I’d say this is the way to go, partially out of sympathy for the domain and its impending graveyarding.
On an enormous tangent, your writing has a lovely sense of amiability, and after reading on May 23rd from your “Today”, I see it’s very on brand of you. 😃
I very much so appreciate it, as others surely do as well!In any case, I hope this discussion at least helped “enough”. If there’s anything else WordPress related (e.g. even things like CSS), you’re absolutely more than welcome to inquire! Thanks a ton for your patience.
