Redirect within a wordpress.org custom-domain site
-
Is it possible, at a wordpress.org-hosted site with a custom domain, to add a redirect page? I moved my site from blogger, and severa of my friends linked to , a page that doesn’t exist on the wordpress.org site. Currently, the user is sent to http://neilfein.com/2004/10/01/blog-stuff/; I’d prefer they be sent to the main page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need to inquire over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ which is where self-hosted wordpress blogs are supported.
Search at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins for “redirect” and look through what is available there. The thing is, with the differences in URLs, you might end up having to redirect all old links since everything the search engines have are now returning 404 errors.
I just did 301 redirects for a client’s new site, and I had to do 300. Luckily 6 months from now all those old links should be history.

Thanks, will do.
I was under the impression that wordpress-hosted blogs couldn’t use the plugin architecture, is this correct?

Sites hosted on WordPress.COM can not use Plug-in’s. WordPress.ORG software is designed to use Plug-in’s.
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.COM does not allow Plug-in’s for reliability and security reasons. Look over at http://wordpress.org/support/ for the number of times the fix is “disable all Plug-in’s and then enable them one at a time until you find the one that crashes your site”

Ahhh, plugins… the bain of any web designer’s existence. Soooo helpful, but such a PITA.
