Redirecting a page
-
I’m trying to set up a redirect page so that when the page loads it directs them to another url.
I know this should work as it works on my own website. i wanted to do this as there is no “home” in my pages widget. i thought if i created one and the put a redirect script on the page to redirect it to the home of the blog it would work. alas, it didnt. the page just loads and nothing happens. when i go back to edit the code of the page, its blank.
any1 know how to do this?

Redirecting to a different URL is against the Terms of Service at WordPress.com. Your best bet is to make a static link in the appropriate place in your blog. If you get the Domain upgrade, it applies to your entire blog, not just one page.
Also, scripts are stripped out at WordPress.com because we’re on a shared blogging platform and leaving them in would mean they’d change things for everyone. It’s a security issue.

Hang on: do you mean you simply want to put a link to your main blog page in the Pages Widget? Sorry if I misunderstood: I was taking it to mean you wanted something that appeared to be a blog page to actually redirect to an exterior site.

yeh. i want my blog page (which is my home page) to be on the pages widget. i thought that would be the only way round it. is there another?
i was planning to also create another that linked to the forum, but i guess you cant do that.
im wondering if the only way to do this is to create the same thing as the pages widget manually in a text widget?
can u help any more raincoaster?
thanks for the help -
I’d do it as a text widget. But what’s your theme? Can we take a look at the blog, because most templates have a very prominent HOME or BLOG tab or link somewhere. It may not be necessary, and Pages would be a counterintuitive place for it.

relequestual, just for reference, the correct URL for your blog is appaholic.wordpress.com. You don’t include the ‘www’ bit. The ‘appaholic’ takes the place of it. 30% of the folks on the next and most if not all search engine spiders can’t follow such a link.

thanks for that. i really didnt know. i didnt c it make any difference, as it just removes the www. bit itself.

i copied the html for the “pages” widget, and copied it, adding links as i needed to! should of figured really! lol
