Redirecting Blog After Changing URL

    I recently changed my URL from onegrapefruits to onegrapefruit. Now that I have changed it, none of my followers can see my new posts on their reader, and neither can I. It does not show my new posts on the desktop version nor on the mobile version.
    I looked up what to do and all the answers say that I need to purchase a redirect option for my new site. I find that ridiculous as I still have a free domain that ends in ‘.wordpress.com’ If I had gotten a new domain that ended in ‘.com’ then that would be totally different. And maybe if it were a one-time deal, it wouldn’t be such a big deal but this is a yearly payment.
    Obviously, I can’t even change my wordpress address back to my previous one without deleting it first, and I don’t want to do that without figuring out what the fix to this is.
    I need help. Basically, I want everything to be the same as it was before I changed my URL and I don’t even know if paying for the site redirect guarantees that.
