Redirecting Deleted URLs
-
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help. My site was recently hacked and all content was deleted. I’ve recovered the content through cached info and am working through putting it all back up.
However, the old, original pages – which got deleted – still appear on Google searches. Clicking through leads to 404 pages however. I’d like to redirect these pages to the new pages, so that I retain some SEO value for them.
For example – this was the old post, which still appears on Google, but has been deleted – http://somefilmsandstuff.com/2012/12/19/inception/
I’d need that URL redirecting to this new URL – http://somefilmsandstuff.com/2013/11/25/inception-review/
Is there an easy way to do this? Or a plugin which could sort my entire blog for me? Any advice would be great on this.
Thank you,

I don’t think there is an easy way – all I can think of is to change the date of each article to match the original.

I’m afraid not :-( . I have wished that there was after discovering an error in a URL/Title .. – after correcting it anyone arriving because of a post notification email got a 404!

Hi there,
I’m sorry, but there’s no way to redirect URLs on WordPress.com like that. As tandava108 said, you can change the post date and the post slug (permalink) on your new posts so they match the old posts — that way visitors who use the old URL will end up in the right place.
We also have some tips for recovering deleted posts and pages here: Deleted Posts and Pages
Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this.
