Redirecting from a page to a post

  • Unknown's avatar

There is a link (ageo.co/Jcgqgq) in a book published 2 years ago to a page on my blog that does not exist any more:
    http://mycarta.wordpress.com/category/color-2/
Is it possible to create a redirect for that page to a post, for example:
    http://mycarta.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/the-rainbow-is-dead-long-live-the-rainbow-series-outline/
    Thanks
    Matteo

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Matteo,

While I can’t think of a way that will automatically redirect that page elsewhere, my suggestion would be to assign the category of “color-2” to your requested post.

That way, at least if someone sees the page in question they’ll see your post and can click-through to it.

Part of the difficulty here is that the URL you’ve provided isn’t really a “Page” one can edit, It’s an archive of all posts with the category “color-2.” Without modifying the posts themselves, there isn’t a way to change what that URL would display.

The other option would be to contact the author/publishers of the book and have them adjust where that link points. ageo.co appears to be a short url account through bit.ly — so they can likely login to their bit.ly account and point ageo.co/Jcgqgq to a completely new address.

    Best,

    Thanks Alex
Unfortunately the book is a printed one, so I went with your first suggestion, which is a good solution given the circumstances. I added back the post to the color-2 category, which at one point I’d created by mistake.

    Hi Matteo,

Even with a printed book, the publisher may be able to change the link. “ageo.co/Jcgqgq” is what appears in the book, correct?

This is a shortlink that runs through the service bit.ly. Bit.ly offers users to setup shortlinks that can then point to any web URL. If the publisher still has access to that bit.ly account, they can change “ageo.co/jcgqgq” to point to any URL they wish. The address in the book can go anywhere.

Given the circumstances, it might be worth seeing if that change would be easy for them. Just a thought. :)

Glad the category fixed it as a work-around though!

    Best,

    -Alex G.

I will check with them. Thanks for taking the time to go over this.
    Cheers,
